Sunshine Tour - Cape Town & Di Data

The beautiful mess…

Hello everyone, happy Monday! Not quite sure if Monday is the best or worst day of the week, I think you change your perception of a Monday depending on how well your weekend has been… for me it’s a bit of a relief as I’m currently sat in the airport just about to embark on a lovely days travel back to Abu Dhabi to see the beautiful wife.

I think it is safe to say that the past three weeks have been a proper struggle for me. Three events on the Sunshine Tour have come to an end, overall a very disappointing outcome if I’m honest. Two missed cuts and a battling 35th position in the Cape Town Open was not what I was looking for after what seemed like a productive few weeks beforehand in the Middle East practicing. I wouldn’t say it’s back to the drawing board but something needs to be refined, I seem to have lost my ability to find fairways at the moment and three weeks playing from some of South Africa’s finest shrubbery is not quite the business trip most are looking for in my line of work.

As I visit SA more and more I find myself realizing that I’m so lucky to do what I do. Don’t get me wrong, the run of form that I have currently been on is utterly soul destroying and it does make you question yourself constantly but that is inevitable as I did pick a sport that you lose more than you win.

After seeing different parts of this country you realize how much of a beautiful mess this place is and in chaos is the beauty. Vast amounts of natural beauty, mixed in with modern day living, slums and makeshift homes give it a stark contrast. When you drive, fly from place to place, from one tournament to the next you realize very quickly just how diverse South Africa really is and it’s a really fun/ eye opening place to be.

I’m sorry that it’s not more positive news at the moment and I feel it’s taking its toll at this present time on the course, but it’s all part of the process and the journey. You have to appreciate the utter crap and take it on the chin with a smile on your face as it will make the good results that I know are only around the corner feel that much better!

I’m next in action on the Mena Tour in Oman so will keep you updated how the trip goes next week. Hope you all have a great week and through the shit times, keep smiling, it might never happen and if it does, it’s better to laugh than cry!
