Jamega Tour - Essendon

Hello everyone!

This week I have been playing my last event as a single man on the Jamega Tour at Essendon Country Club.

The course this week was a enjoyable layout but with it playing rather short it gave lots of opportunities for birdies so getting going on the greens was an absolute must.

I played really nicely on the first day and hit a lot of solid shots to around 10-20 feet and managed to hole a few putts to post a very tidy 65(-7). It left me in solo second and three shots back going into the final round of Dorset legend Mike Watson who posted a awesome 62(-10). I have never played with Mike before so was great to finally play with him in the final group as he gets himself ready for the Seniors Tour in a years time.

I think both of us struggled a bit in the last round and as the greens got a bit bumpy after the whole field had been trampling on them, it did become a rather frustrating afternoon on the greens. With that said I played boring golf and plodded around like I did the previous day but never really got the putter going and had to settle for a steady 69(-3) and a -10 total which actually got me into a playoff with two other players.

After the first playoff hole we lost one of the guys as he dropped a shot on the 218 yard, Par 3 18th hole and then there was two. Unfortunately for me I hit a cracking shot into the 2nd playoff hole but it hit the fringe instead of the green and proceeded to bounce a good 40 yards through the green and led to a bogey which left the door open for a solid par of the winner Mark Laskey.

It was disappointing to lose in the playoff but the goal was to give the new irons a run out and stay sharp for my events post wedding so all boxes were ticked apart from the win. I have just switched to the Callaway X forged irons and if your in the market for a new set, I would recommend a trial as they are awesome!

I have a nice little break now in the build up to the wedding next week. Will get some light practice in but nothing too intense so will keep it chilled. My next event is straight after the honeymoon before a pretty intense run of events so this will be a welcomed mini break!

I hope you all have a cracking week and will keep you posted how my next event goes in a couple of weeks

Signing off as a single man… wish me luck
