Sunshine Tour - KCB Karen Masters

Grey skies and 65’s…

Hello everyone… This week I am writing this from Kenya of all places. Not going to lie I had no idea what to expect when traveling down to play in the Sunshine Tour event this week but Kenya has been surprisingly pleasant.

This week I have been around 30 minutes from Nairobi, playing at Karen Golf club in the Karen Masters. The course this week has been a real treat and a very fun layout with lots of opportunities for birdies but equally as many to catch you out with some funky greens and pin positions to cause the players some problems.

The hardest adjustment this week has been the yardage’s, at 1800M above sea level the ball travels miles, so making adjustments did take a little while. After a cracking opening nine on the first day of -4, I unfortunately played the next 27 holes in very uninspiring fashion and needed a very strong finish on the back nine to make the half way cut and stood at level par after 36 holes.

Round three was a very frustrating day as played by far my best golf of the week but couldn’t seem to hole anything on the greens to get any momentum and had to settle for a 71(-1).

Today was the final round and we were greeted with grey clouds and very overcast conditions for most of the morning. I played lovely today, was so nice to actually stand there and hit the ball somewhere in the direction that I intended (this doesn’t happen as often as you would imagine in professional golf). What followed was a solid performance all round and after an opening nine of -2, I managed to play the back nine in -5 for a bogey free 65(-7) and a tournament total of -8 and a twelfth place finish.

For that I was rewarded with a sum that didn’t even cover my costs for the week but it did put some valuable cash on the order of merit and with my wedding coming up in August and missing quite a few events down in South Africa on the Sunshine Tour should keep me in the events I can play later on in the year which is a relief.

Just wanted to thank the Sunshine Tour, Karen Golf Club and KCB and Sponsors for a great first visit to Kenya. Very much looking forward to returning to play the event in years to come and thanks to all the members and volunteers for giving up their time and golf club for the players this week. I fly back to Abu Dhabi tomorrow afternoon and then will be heading back to the UK and few days later to play a few small events before I venture out for some abuse on my Stag Doo and then marry the girl of my dreams. So in a nutshell a fun August ahead.

Now it’s time to sit back, relax, drink coffee, eat chocolate and watch the Open… lets see who can take home the best jug in the world! I think it’s going to be a Sunday to remember!

Have a great Sunday guys and hopefully see some of you soon

Cheers Luke
