European Q school - Stage 2 - Spain

Sport is just… sport some time!

Hello everyone,

Hope this finds you well and you have had a good week. With all the crap that is going on in the world right now, which is just inhumane in every way… sometimes you have to take a moment to realize just how lucky we all are to have ultimately won the postcode lottery.

Last week I was in Spain for the European Qualifying school at Desert Springs resort. It is always strange returning to the golf club where I spent my teenage years fondly with the Dorset junior training squad on our winter training and unfortunately the nostalgia didn’t help my results too much. My game had been trending really nicely in the build up to Q school with some low numbers being posted in practice and a nice win in the Abu Dhabi Pro Am the week before I traveled. However as much as that helps builds the confidence, golf has a great way to smash you back down to earth and ultimately give you the metaphorical middle finger.

After being +5 after two holes in round 1 from what seemed like very slight mistakes, the start to my campaign didn’t quite go to plan and always felt like I was on the back foot and chasing. It was the story of the week unfortunately, battle back to then make a big number to drop me further in the shit… when the weather came in rounds 2/3 it made it hard to chose and make up the difference.

Not to be this year but have seen plenty of positives in my game over the past 6 months to not be deterred and have a good run of events coming in the next three weeks including stage 1 of Asian Tour Qualifying in the middle of December to finish of the year.

I literally can’t thank the support I have got this year and also for the help with Q school, to have the opportunity to play has been amazing and just gutted I couldn’t push on further. Big shout out to Pete my caddy this week, never stopped talking, I think it could be a case of verbal diarrhea, but whatever we had thrown at us, he did it with a smile.

Looking forward to getting some work in before heading to Bahrain next week and have a little family time too

Have a great weekend and will keep you posted how the next few weeks go

Cheers Luke
